Activity 1 (see video): Separating colors like scientists! Materials Cut some paper towels or coffee filters to fit in a small cup or glass pick out washable marker colors And put about 1/2 inch of watch in bottom of class/cup. Try it out! 1. Make sure your paper will fit in the cup so that the top of the paper is just touching the water line. 2. Fold the other end of the paper over the top of the cup 3. Take it out and make a line, design or dot near the bottom of the paper. 4. Place your paper in the cup and watch what happens? Let this go for 1-2 minutes. You are defying gravity! 5. Try using different colored markers. Or make different designs! Try this out with mixing food coloring and water too! Do some math! Which colors travel farther up the paper than others? Measure how far they travel. Check out Activity 2: You can mix and separate colors all over a paper towel create an art collage of color to hang on the wall too! |
