-Watch out markers and food coloring can stain your hands and clothes! -Always do this with a grownup. Things you could talk about with your child:
Talk with your child about colors. And mixing them. If they’ve done some color mixing at school, have them make some predictions about what they think will happen when you mix certain colors. Remind them "Now we’re thinking like scientists!" Questions you could ask your child:

Activity 2 (see video):
Using chromatography to make designs! Materials Find a template or just decorate a coffee filter or paper. Since it's spring, we found some free clip art templates online. Choose marker colors Pick a template to draw on and color. Here's free clip art flowers. Try it out! Decorate your paper towel with the marker Show your child how to use a dropper with water or use a paint brush or spoon and have them put a couple of drops of water on a paper towel or coffee filter. Watch what happens and talk about it. You can mix and separate colors all over a paper towel create an art collage of color to hang on the wall too! |
